Lab Visit 1: Institute of Archaeological Science

Archaeological science and technology refer to the study that applies natural scientific techniques to address archaeological questions. Fudan University has forty years of experience in archaeological science and technology research. In studying ancient artifacts, Fudan professors utilize techniques like PIXE to analyze unearthed relics like ancient ceramics and glass. In bioarchaeology, Fudan University's archaeological team conducts interdisciplinary research in collaboration with global counterparts, conducting on-site investigations at various ancient Chinese sites. Their research encompasses analysis of
ancient human bone DNA, reconstruction of ancient diets through trace element analysis of human bones, a study of bone pathologies, archaeobotany, zooarchaeology, pollen analysis, and reconstruction of ancient environments.
